“Al Mare in Treno”
An alternative to the classic model "driving holiday", opting for more sustainable solutions.
The winner of the 2012 “Premio Sodalitas Social Award”, is based on a strategy of co-marketing with Trenitalia and is designed to offer tourists an alternative to the classic model "driving holiday", opting for more sustainable solutions.
The way it works is that hotels in Rimini and Riccione offer reimbursement of rail fares for one week stays (half board or full board) while the weekend price is discounted by 10%. All guests benefiting from the promotion are also entitled to furhter public transport discounts, free admission to museums and discounts for the most famous amusement parks of the Riviera.
Promoting the use of rail as a means of transport for leisure trips has fostered a greater awareness on issues of sustainable tourism and raised people’s awareness (including tourists, tour operators, travel agencies and rail personnel) of environmental issues. Another major objective of this campaign was to reduce car traffic in the vicinity of the destinations involved, which translates into a saving of CO2 emissions and improved quality of life of citizens and tourists.
