"Green cement", a new type of hydraulic binder.
A new group of hydraulic binding agents, named Celitement, seems to be a promising improvement of the energy and environmental balances in the cement production. Celitement is based on hydraulically active calcium hydrosilicates, which needs less lime lime during the production process and the burning temperature can be reduced to 300°C (usually a temperatur of approx. 1450°C is needed).
Barriers and Drivers
Barriers: A failure of the material during construction could have serious consequences for humans and the environment. Thus, intensive research work and testing trials must be conducted (detailed examination of the physical and chemical characteristics). These testing trials will show if Celitement can compete with conventional cement in the long run.
Drivers: Apart from the improved ecological balance, Celitement features optimal material properties and is compatible with conventional types of cement. Also the process of engineering is well-knownand widely tested in the manufacturing of cement or aerated concrete.
During the entire production process up to 50 % of the required energy can be saved compared to the production of conventional cement. In addition. 50 percent of the emissions can be reduced.
