The European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment is the primary stakeholder and funder of this three-year project, under the Competitiveness and Innovation framework Programme. The EIO is a key action under the Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP) of the European Commission.
The EIO also draws support from the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry, through the Europe INNOVA initiative.
Additionally, the Observatory has the backing of national governments, networks and leading academic experts.
